Ashton Kutcher, Mila Kunis receives criticism, being disowned by fans for sending character reference letters in Danny Masterson case.

Actors Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis turned to social media on Saturday to respond to some of the criticism they have gotten for sending letters of support to the Los Angeles judge seeing the Danny Masterson rape case ahead of Masterson’s sentence.

“That 70’s Show” actor Danny Masterson was sentenced 30 years to life in prison after being found guilty in June of raping two women at his Hollywood Hills home about two decades ago. The 47-year-old actor and prominent Scientologist, who also starred in the retro TV comedy for eight seasons until 2006, was convicted in May in a second trial. A jury deadlocked on a charge that he raped a third woman.

Kutcher, Kunis, and Masterson co-starred on the smash comedy “That ’70s Show” from 1998 until 2006. Masterson later co-starred in the Netflix comedy series “The Ranch,” which aired from 2016 to 2020. However, Masterson only featured in the first three seasons of the programme before being fired in December 2017 following the rape claims.

Later, in a video posted by Kutcher, explains that, “A couple months ago, Danny’s family reached out to us and they asked us to write character letters to represent the person that we knew for 25 years, so that the judge could take that into full consideration relative to the sentencing.”

On the other hand, one of the victims identified as Jane Doe 2 in the case said that, when she met Masterson, she was a member of the Church of Scientology, and she regarded the religious organisation as a “enabler and protector” for him. She also claimed that the church “terrorised and harassed” her when she sought to speak out about her rape.

Now after coming into the spotlight, the celebrity couple is receiving tremendous hate from their fan-base. People in twitter are bursting out in anger, calling them hypocrites for showing support when Ashton himself runs a foundation which fights to protect children from abuse and trafficking.

While neither has publicly replied to the outrage, writer and TV broadcaster Nina Parker claimed on Twitter that Ashton had banned her after she posted about the letter. She tweeted a screenshot of him blocking her from his Facebook. When asked why in the comments, she responded, “He supported a rapist.”
